Liposuction is a superb method for contouring the neck and jaw line. The procedure is done through tiny incisions in the creases under the chin and behind the ears. Liposuction works best in patients with good skin elasticity whose skin will adjust and spontaneously re-drape to a reduced neck volume. People in their twenties and thirties almost always have positive results from liposuction alone. Some patients in their forties and fifties will also benefit from liposuction alone, but many patients over 45 look better if liposuction is combined with procedures to tighten sagging neck muscle.
Liposuction Plus Corset-Platysmaplasty. For patients with loose skin and muscle, simple liposuction, or Smartlipo™, will not reliably tighten the skin and create a smooth, youthful jaw line. For these patients, removal of fat by liposuction, combined with tightening of the underlying muscle (platysma) with small stitches creates a crisp, youthful neck and jaw line. The procedure, done through small incisions under the chin and behind the ear, is analogous to tightening a corset, hence the term corset-platysmaplasty.
Liposuction and liposuction plus corset-platysmaplasty can be done with local anesthesia.
